For Immediate Release: FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER MOTORS A number of years ago, Bell Automotive of Newton established as one of its goals to offer an unsurpassed level of customer service. The dealership's ongoing commitment to excellence was rewarded recently as Daimler Chrysler Motors Corporation named the dealership the recipient of its prestigious Five Star rating. While the car maker's hope is to ultimately have all its dealers receive Five Star certification, Bell is among the very first in Northern New Jersey to attain such acclaim. According to Bell Automotive Sales Manager Dave Bradley, "Bell is among the first to get a Five Star certification because of our long track record of longstanding commitment to customer service. Five Star lets customers know the dealership's promise to deliver superior service is more than just words. It's proven results." Five Star is awarded to Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, and Jeep dealers whose personnel undergo and pass specific training. In order for a dealership to be awarded the rating, 70 percent of the dealer's entire staff must undergo the training and then pass a test. Each year, Daimler Chrysler sets comprehensive skill and professional development standards for dealership employees. These standards are critical to improving individual dealership employees performance while helping bring the dealership as a whole Five Star certification. Everyone, from service technician, the sales staff, all the way to the dealership general manager, has to undergo a series of training requirements in order for the dealership to receive a Five Star rating. Separate training courses are given in the three separate areas of an auto dealership -- sales, service, and parts. Staff employees take one series of courses, while management undergoes a different set of training. The minimum requirement consists of at least three days training and the completion of an on-site meeting, or "Meeting in a Box." After that, a test is given to each employee, who must receive a minimum passing score of 80%. In addition an "Auto Basics" test is given on CD. While the dealership is cited as a Five Star recipient, individual employees can receive either Bronze, Silver, or Gold certification, depending on how many additional courses they take from Daimler Chrysler. According to Bradley, "Even though the basic individual certification requires at least a bronze level, more than half of our employees have at least Silver certification. And our ultimate goal is to have everyone of our employees achieve a Gold level." In addition to the course work, the dealership must achieve a certain Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) rating. The ratings measure customer satisfaction in the areas of sales and service.
